Gifts for a Grand Opening

In October 2022, Event Network approached Tokens & Icons to help create custom merchandise for the American Museum of Natural History's retail stores in celebration of the grand opening of their newest building, the Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation. They requested the items be made of the iconic Sterling Hill rock, which is a feature of their Gem & Mineral hall exhibit. The giant slab of rock, removed from the Sterling Hill Mine in New Jersey in 2018 for their exhibit, features over 90 mineral species that are fluorescent under UV light. Tokens received the rock and proceeded to cut and craft the pieces into custom sterling silver accessories, crafting 40 pairs of cuff links, 30 bracelets, and 40 key rings out of sterling silver.

Our Artisan sliced the rock into 1/8" and 3/16" thick slabs before cutting them into rectangles. The rock had many fissures throughout it, as it was originally blasted from the Sterling Hill Mine hillside in 2018.
